Good news! In this month’s online journal of Pediatrics, a study was released about the benefits of moderate video gaming for the mental and emotional health of kids. Turns out, kids who play up to an hour a day are more likely to be happier and more empathetic. there is a tipping point, however, and gaming for more than that can have the opposite effect, making kids unhappier and more likely to act out.
Again- like with so many other things that effect our health- the key here is balance. Kids should get the chance to take a break from their every day stressors and play… but with some agreed upon guidelines set in place.
Hey 7th graders! Did you know that 1/3 of all teenagers are sleep deprived? According to the National Sleep Foundation, you need at least 9 hours, and most of you aren’t even clocking in at 7. Why is that? Screen time and tech distractions are part of the problem, but so is the desire to study
